Australian economy: current account deficit AUD16.55bln

Exports fell by 0.5% which brought the deficit number in slightly higher than expected. Business inventories grew by 0.5% and private sector credit contracted, up by 0.2% MoM, as the effects of increasing interest rates took hold. The AUD/USD is trading close to the top of its session range at .8485.

Bernanke, Trichet talk mainly about emerging economies

The ECB have released a text of the Trichet speech given via video-link to a Bank of Korea conference. Nothing startling here at all, just reiterating what everybody knows anyway. Bloomberg reports. Reuters reports on the Bernanke speech which is along the same lines.
