| Crude Oil - The Ascending Triangle And Breakout To New Highs Posted: 06 Jan 2010 11:01 PM PST Crude Oil has a bullish seasonality going into the end of the year, but the end of 2009 saw a major price expansion move to the upside, re-breaking above an ascending triangle trendline which carried crude oil prices to fresh new recovery highs. Let’s take a look at this recent development. Starting with the June 2008 highs, we saw a clean horizontal resistance trendline form at the $75.00 level that contained price mainly as a key resistance level to watch. Price began forming … [visit site to read more] |
| The Nine Chinese Men Who Control America’s Fate Posted: 06 Jan 2010 10:01 PM PST Nine politicians in China control the fate of the United States of America. I’m not kidding. The implications are scary. Let me explain… These nine men are the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. They control the value of China’s currency. Fortunately, it’s easy to forecast what a politician will do… He will do whatever it takes to keep his job. The story is remarkably simple… In China, the goal of these nine politicians is to keep the Communist Party … [visit site to read more] |
| The Junior Gold Miners ETF Diversifies Investors From Buying A Single Speculative Miner Dud Posted: 06 Jan 2010 09:01 PM PST As gold breached new highs throughout the end of 2009, the timing of the Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (GDXJ) launch has been perfect. It was the right ETF at the right time, but the data also indicates that some of the inflows has also come from Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX). Investors looking to get more aggressive seem to have made the switch into the more speculative ETF. (GDXJ) allows investors to diversify in speculative miners instead of the chance of just … [visit site to read more] |
| Gold ETF (GLD): Sorting Facts From Fiction Posted: 06 Jan 2010 08:01 PM PST When anything gets insanely popular, the adoration often soon gives way to skepticism, criticism and scrutiny. State Street’s gold exchange traded fund (ETF) is no exception to this rule. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) has become the world’s second-largest ETF and sixth-largest holder of gold bullion, writes Rob for Wallaston Investments. As this fund grows, GLD opponents have spread rumors and spurious theories, which have confused some would-be investors, speculators and even some mainstream … [visit site to read more] |

| At 84,000, US Private-Sector Job Losses For December Are Less Than Expected Posted: 06 Jan 2010 06:21 PM PST Is the U.S. jobs market finally ready to move in the right direction? According to a national employment report released yesterday (Wednesday), that appears to be the case. The U.S. economy lost an estimated 84,000 private-sector jobs in December, the smallest decline since March 2009, the report said. Also good news: Service providers - the largest component of the U.S. economy - actually added jobs, according to the national employment report, which is published by payroll … [visit site to read more] |
| Small Cap Profit Opportunity In Natural Gas Posted: 06 Jan 2010 06:01 PM PST One of the big trades for 2010 is going to be natural gas. It bottomed last year and is still trading at a discount compared to oil. The oil-to-natural gas ratio is currently around 14, a huge drop from a high around 24 in 2009. Just take a look at the 6% rise in natural gas today, and it appears as though many investors, and companies, are thinking good times are ahead for clean burning natural gas. French oil company Total SA (TOT) recently announced a $2.25 billion deal with … [visit site to read more] |
| Posted: 06 Jan 2010 05:42 PM PST Like the bursting of the housing bubble and the financial crisis that began in the spring of 2007, the unfolding disaster in commercial real estate — which I made reference to in my remarks for the 2010 Bespoke Rountable — is neither surprising nor containable (to use an old favorite of clueless policymakers). |
| Singapore Stock Market: Our Focus For Today Is On Property, Oil & Gas And Commodity Sector Posted: 06 Jan 2010 05:23 PM PST Morning Highlights The Singapore Exchange (SGX) is proposing allowing the listing of cash companies, alongside a broadening of its mainboard admission criteria - in what market observers believe is an attempt to secure more listings at a difficult time. | Gold - Potential Rebound After Bearish Correction Posted: 06 Jan 2010 05:14 PM PST Despite the deep bearish correction that occurred in spot gold (a daily chart of which is shown) in the month of December, price action has begun what could turn out to be a significant rebound as of the beginning of 2010. This occurs within the context of an overall, continuing uptrend. The December bearish correction brought price down to a key 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level at around 1074 (the low-to-high retracement span being measured from the low on 10/2/2009 to the all-time high on … [visit site to read more] |
| 12 ETFs To Play The 10 Economic Surprises Of 2010 Posted: 06 Jan 2010 05:01 PM PST It’s a brand-new year, which means a host of brand-new, hot-off-the-presses economic predictions. Byron Wien, who seemed awfully prescient with his 2009 predictions, is out with another 10 for the coming year. Byron Wien, chief investment strategist at Pequot Capital Management, was eerily spot-on in his 2009 predictions, which included: The S&P 500 will rise to 1200 (close - it ended the year at 1115) |
| Mutual Fund Cash Levels Do Not Support This Stock Market Rally Posted: 06 Jan 2010 04:05 PM PST As a group, mutual fund managers are as good a contrarian indicator for the stock market as they come. History shows that they hold relatively high cash levels at the beginning of a bull market. Then at the end of a bull market they don’t have much cash since they’re more or less fully invested. And if you look at mutual fund cash levels in relation to the S&P 500 over the years, as shown in the chart below, you can easily spot this pattern. High Cash Levels in the 1980s, Low Cash … [visit site to read more] |
| Mark January 13 On Your Calendar Posted: 06 Jan 2010 04:01 PM PST Next Wednesday, Jan. 13, won’t be just another hump day. It’s a key date for regulators in both the United States and Europe who are preparing to launch the largest overhaul of global financial regulation since The Great Depression. On that day, at least two seminal events are scheduled to take place: The U.S. Congress’ Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) - the ten-member commission appointed with goal of investigating the causes of the financial crisis - will begin its first … [visit site to read more] |

The stock hit $6.37 on September 17th, which is resistance for its next move. The daily chart of SOL suggests a strong confidence in stock, a clear uptrend momentum. | Daily ETF Roundup: UNG Surges 5%, VXX Sinks Posted: 06 Jan 2010 02:34 PM PST Anticipation continued to build towards a major jobs announcement on Friday, as a report from ADP indicated that private sector jobs in the U.S. posted the smallest decline last month since March 2008. Elsewhere, news that democratic Senator Dodd will not seek re-election left an uncertain future for financial reform, and the drama between Cadbury and Kraft continued to heat up. |
| Mesa Airlines Files Chapter 11 Posted: 06 Jan 2010 02:27 PM PST Mesa Airlines, a subsidiary of Mesa Air Group (MESA), announced yesterday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, hoping to shed the financial obligations arising from leases on airplanes it no longer needs. Currently, the company has approximately 40% non functioning planes of its total fleet of 130. It hopes to shed 25 others that it does not need. The restructuring is expected to cut the extra fleets, thereby reducing operating cost. |

| More Woes For Commercial Real Estate Posted: 06 Jan 2010 02:00 PM PST The recession forces us to ask ourselves some hard questions… like, what kind of lifestyles can we truly afford?
