H&R Block Reports Interim Results

Yesterday, H&R Block Inc. (NYSE:HRB) announced its preliminary tax season results for the interim period through Mar 15, 2010. While the company experienced an improvement in results during the Mar 1 - 15 period, the results were still down for the tax season-to-date through March 15.

ConAgra Meets, Stock Tumbles

ConAgra Foods, Inc. (NYSE:CAG) reported results for the third quarter of fiscal 2010.  During the quarter EPS was 44 cents, up from 40 cents in the year-ago quarter due to a 25% increase in operating profit in the Consumer Foods segment. Reported EPS was in line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate.

Encouraging Data On Zalbin

Recently, Human Genome Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ:HGSI) announced interim results on hepatitis C candidate Zalbin from a mid-stage study. The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Zalbin. The results revealed that a monthly dose of Zalbin was as effective as a weekly dose of Roche's (RHHBY) Pegasys (peginterferon alfa-2a), which is the current standard of care.

The EURJPY has move higher over the last few days on the back of the overall selling in JPY. This is despite the sharp fall in the EURUSD over the same period.  The pair remains near the lows - but trades between the consolidation highs and lows on the daily chart.

Everest Re Estimates Trend Down

We are downgrading our recommendation on Everest Re Group Ltd. (NYSE:RE) to Underperform.
 
Everest Re has recently announced its initial loss estimates from the earthquake in Chile and the European Windstorm Xynthia. The losses are substantial. The company expects to incur $225 million of losses for the earthquake in Chile and around $25 million for the Windstorm Xynthia.

Earnings Preview For Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson Inc. (NYSE:HOG) announced that it will release its first quarter results for 2010 before the market opens on April 20, 2010. The motorcycle maker had disappointed in the fourth quarter of 2009 by reporting a loss of $147.2 million or 63 cents per share compared to an income of $91.9 million or 40 cents in the comparable period a year ago.

BofA Forgives Home-Loan Principals

According to the agreement with state attorneys general to help homeowners who got high-risk home loans from Countrywide Financial, Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) said on Wednesday that it would forgive about $3 billion in principal loan amount to about 45,000 troubled borrowers.
 
The borrowers had taken those loans before BofA acquired Countrywide Financial in mid-2008. However, following the acquisition, BofA has stopped such loans.

 The USDJPY has moved to new highs since January 11th. The price is currently trading at the highs for the day after correcting with the market in earlier action. The 93.12 is the next longer term target for the pair. This is the 50% retracement of the 2009 move down from the high to the low.

The EURUSD has corrected overnight on Trichets emergency collaterol rules beyond 2010.  Nevertheless, the extension has had a limited impact to the EURUSD - at least in relation to the fall that has occurred over the last few days.  The pair remains down near the bottom of the weeks range.  The correction from the high for the week to the low for the week has remained below the 38.2% of the range. The Dollar has consolidated major gains across the board.. The Dollar rose also after stocks in the US ended with losses. The Dow Jones lost -0.48% and the NASDAQ fell by -0.68% after an unexpected drop of -2.2% in New Home Sales which came out 308K, worse than 315K expected. Crude Oil for May delivery declined -1.8% and closed at 80.2$ a barrel. Gold (XAU) tumbled closing at 1086$ an ounce. Today, Initial Jobless Claims are expected with 450K vs. 457K previously.
