United Community Banks Inc. (UCBI) reported fourth quarter results on Friday. The company posted a net operating loss of $39.8 million, or 45 cents per share, compared to net operating loss of $46.7 million, or 99 cents per share in the year-ago quarter. The December report on Personal Income and Spending showed that personal income rose by 0.4%, one tick higher than the expected 0.3% increase, but a slowdown from the 0.5% rate in November. The November rate was, however, revised up from 0.4%, so the December rate is flat from where we thought Personal Income growth was yesterday.

The USDJPY has benefitted the most off the better ISM data.  The price has moved away from neutral levels at the 90.25 area where moving averages have congregated on 5 minute, hourly and daily charts(see blue 100 bar and green lines 200 bar on the three charts).

Recently, LAN Airlines S.A. (LFL), one of Latin America’s leading passenger and cargo airlines reported results for the fourth quarter and full year 2009. During the quarter, Lan reported a net income of $109.8 million, down 17.6% from the year-ago quarter. EPS was $0.32 compared to $0.28 in the fourth quarter of 2008. Stock Buy: Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany & Co. (TIF) recently announced a dividend hike of 18%. The quarterly dividend was increased from 17 cents to 20 cents and will be paid on April 20. Tiffany pays an industry-leading dividend yield of 1.7%.
The company also stated that it will resume repurchasing its common stock shares, noting that repurchases have been suspended since the third quarter of 2008.
