Posted: 02 Feb 2010 09:01 AM PST

The biggest emerging economies have ambitious plans that require a greater share of the world’s limited commodities. This trend is spurring profound and permanent disruptions in how these resources are allocated now and in the future. For investors, these disruptions present opportunities.

Simply put, an investment in natural resources is a vote of confidence in global economic growth.

Rapid urbanization and industrialization, better infrastructure and growing consumption in emerging … [visit site to read more]

The EURUSD has pushed ahead, rising above the 100 hour MA at the 1.3953 level.  The price extended to 1.3965 which is not a whole lot.   The extension closed the hour below the moving average line  which puts into question the markets heart in the directional break.  If the price is not able to move back above, soon the downside may take control again.  Watch for a move below 1.3940 for a confirmation.  … [visit site to read more]

To Risk Or Not To Risk

Posted: 02 Feb 2010 08:05 AM PST

In many respects the current market environment can be broken down into a very simple construct: to risk or not to risk. To start this week, the risk trade is back on. Risk assets, such as stocks and commodities, are moving higher; safe haven assets, such as bonds and the Dollar, are moving lower. Last week, the risk trade was off. Safe haven assets outperformed as the risky assets went into a swoon.

From this perspective, the markets have yet to “figure out” if risk taking is warranted or … [visit site to read more]

Our Incredible Shrinking Democracy

I wish conservatives would stop complaining about big government and start worrying about the real problem – small democracy. I wish we'd all worry more about our incredible shrinking democracy.
It seems as if more and more decisions that should be made democratically are being shunted off somewhere to a few people who make them in back rooms. Which programs should be cut, which entitlements pared back, and what taxes raised in order to reduce the long-term budget deficit? Hmmm. Let's … [visit site to read more]

Will Oil Prices Gush Higher Or Spill Lower?

Fundamentals
The year is off to a rough start for energy bulls, as Crude Oil prices have fallen over $10 per barrel in the past 3 weeks. The main catalysts for Oil’s slide have been a rising U.S. Dollar, the Chinese government’s attempts to slow down its economy, and the seemingly anti-business rhetoric coming out of Washington. However, there appears to be some bullish news starting to trickle out. Yesterday, the Institute of Supply Management’s manufacturing index for January rose to 58.4, … [visit site to read more]

When the dollar was headed for crisis in the 70s, he stood firm to raise rates to 18 percent which, for a time, helped the dollar maintain value. In a recent op-ed piece, he further explains the consequences he sees of bank bailouts.
