USD/JPY Outlook January 2-6 2012 Posted: 01 Jan 2012 12:00 AM PST Dollar/yen ticked lower in the last week of 2011. Will the yen continue strengthening in 2012? The first week doesn’t feature any significant economic indicators, so the outlook is mostly technical. Most economic indicators disappointed in Japan in the past week, and show that the country still has a way to go after the March 11 disaster. NZD/USD Outlook January 2-6 2012 Posted: 31 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST The New Zealand dollar enjoyed a second week of gains through the holiday week. Also in the first week of 2012, there are no publications of economic indicators, so yet again, the outlook is technical only. End of year adjustments pushed the kiwi higher, despite worries from China. Will the Chinese landing hurt the kiwi in 2012? The first week of the year could provide an indication. USD/CAD Outlook January 2-6 2012 Posted: 31 Dec 2011 10:30 AM PST The Canadian dollar managed to erase a bit of its yearly losses in the last week of 2011. Employment figures are the main event this week. Here’s an outlook for the Canadian events and an updated technical analysis for USD/CAD. Tensions around Iran’s military exercise in the straights of Hormuz keep oil prices from falling, and this supports the greenback. EUR/USD Outlook January 2-6 2012 Posted: 31 Dec 2011 06:37 AM PST Euro/dollar traded in a narrow range in the last week of 2011 but eventually extended its losses for the year. The first week of 2012 is packed with economic indicators as market participants return from their holidays. Here is an outlook for the 11 events awaiting us, and an updated technical analysis for EUR/USD. Italy had another bad bond auction. It’s not that yields jumped, but if they remain at current levels, the euro-zone’s third largest country will find itself in a debt trap that can bring the whole system down.
